Tailoring Time Frames in Kibana: A Personalized Approach

Modified on Mon, 21 Aug, 2023 at 1:24 AM

Introduction

The Custom Time Window feature empowers you to personalize quick time selections, akin to Kibana's Time Picker rapid ranges.

Step-by-Step Instruction

To set up a report with personalized time frames, click on the 'Create Report' option. Select your data source, dashboard, and desired report format.

Within the report designer interface, navigate to the 'Dashboard time window' situated at the upper-left corner of your screen.

If you prefer to keep generating reports with the dashboard time aligned as in Kibana, you're all set to move forward with scheduling.

However, if you intend to establish a Custom, Absolute, or Relative time frame, simply switch off the 'Use Dashboard Time Window' feature. Then, select your preferred option, as illustrated below. (For instance, I'm opting for a custom time period of 30 days before today until yesterday for report generation in this example.)

Note: Custom Time Window is similar to Kibana Time Picker quick ranges. To check the supported format, Please follow Kibana's supported time units

Examples

Assuming now is 2001-01-01 12:00:00, some examples are:

now-1h

now in milliseconds minus one hour. Resolves to: 2001-01-01 11:00:00

now-1h/d

now in milliseconds minus one hour, rounded down to UTC 00:00. Resolves to: 2001-01-01 00:00:00

2001.02.01\|\|+1M/d

2001-02-01 in milliseconds plus one month. Resolves to: 2001-03-01 00:00:00
