This document will walk you through the steps to configure a slack notification channel in Skedler.
Step-by-step short video
Before configuring the slack notification channel in Skedler UI, We’ll start by visiting the URL https://api.slack.com/apps on your browser and Clicking on the CreateNewApp button.
Choose the option “from Scratch” and enter an App Name, say ‘Skedler Slack’ and choose a workspace to develop the app. In my case, I’m choosing Guidanz. Next, Click on the Create App button to proceed.
You’ll see a web page appears; scroll down in the loaded page and choose permission to configure permission to allow your app to interact with the slack API.
Scroll down to the section Scopes; the slack app's capabilities and permissions are governed by the scopes it requests.
Here we need to add the user’s scopes. If you are an Admin, click the Add an OAuth Scope button and choose Admin scope from the drop-down list.
*If you are not an Admin, you’ll need to add these scopes. List of Scopes
Scopes are added to provide different permissions such as IM permission, file upload/Download permissions, and Channel permissions to the app you’ve created.
We can add scopes by searching the scope name in the user scope search bar and selecting the desired scope.
Once the scope is added, you’ll see a success message pop up at the top of your screen.
Click on Add an OAuth Scope button and repeat the same activity to add all the other scopes mentioned in the list to provide the necessary permissions to allow your app to provide a smooth report distributing experience for the users.
Once you finish adding all the scopes, you’ll be able to see the added user token scopes at a glance.
Scroll to the top of a page, and you’ll see an Install to workspace button that will allow the app to connect with the workspace.
Slack will request permission to access the workspace; click on Allow to proceed.
You’ll notice a user OAuth Token has been generated; Now, copy the token and go to the Skedler to proceed with setting up a Slack notification channel.
We can start configuring our Slack notification channel by clicking on the Notification channel label in the left panel.
Click on the Create button and choose slack from the dropdown list.
I’ll proceed with entering the basic details and pasting the user OAuth token in the token text field.
Next, I’ll scroll down to send a test message on the slack channel to check if the app I created is working as expected.
We’ll Proceed by entering a slack user name and clicking on the Slack It button.
You’ll see a success message pop up in the top right corner of your screen, and a Welcome message on slack from Skedler Reports validating slack settings.
Click on the save button to confirm creating the slack notification channel; you’ll see a new slack notification channel created. This channel can now be used to distribute Skedler reports over slack.
